Okay Coloradans. Stop calling locally flavored Chinese food Chinese food. It ain't even close to Chinese food. If you guys had real Chinese food, you'd be surprised at how different it is. The only reason these restaurants survive is because they cater to you locals - a good serving of lard, food coloring, soy sauce, sugar, and extra salt. I went to La Junta to see the Koshare Museum. I figured that some redneck wouldn't be able to open a Chinese restaurant, so it must be safe, right? Wrrrrrrrrrrrrooooong. Well. I was right in that the owner is not a redneck. But the food is for rednecks. Upon entering the restaurant, I was greeted by a friendly wait staff. The waiters there are so friendly that they started speaking to me -- in Mandarin, asking where I was from, what I was doing in town, etc. Or maybe desperate as I'm one of the few who ventures that far into the boondocks? In any case, upon looking at the menu, it's for white boys. Next time, if I ever go there, I'll ask for an insiders' menu instead.
